In a significant escalation, Iran launched a large-scale missile attack on Israel, twice as powerful as its previous strike in April. According to the Pentagon, Tuesday’s assault involved around 200 ballistic missiles, aimed at critical sites across Israel. Pentagon spokesperson Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder confirmed that the attack was “about twice as large” as the earlier one, underlining Iran’s increased military aggression.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin swiftly responded by speaking with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant before and after the attack. Austin reaffirmed the US’s unwavering commitment to Israel’s defense, assuring Gallant that American forces are well-positioned in the region to protect both US and allied interests.

Two US Navy destroyers, USS Bulkeley and USS Cole, played a crucial role in countering the attack by launching interceptors to neutralize Iranian missiles. The Pentagon reiterated its readiness to defend against any further escalations.

This attack, the most intense in recent memory, has drawn global attention. Secretary of State Antony Blinken condemned the assault as “totally unacceptable” and called for worldwide condemnation of Iran’s actions.

With tensions rising, both the Pentagon and Israeli defense forces remain on high alert, anticipating potential further aggression from Iran. The partnership between Defense Secretary Austin and Yoav Gallant will continue to be critical as the situation unfolds.
