PlayStation Network Status: Global Outage Leaves Gamers Offline
The PlayStation Network (PSN) status has officially been updated to reflect a major global outage, affecting gamers across all PlayStation platforms. The widespread issue, which started late Monday, impacts consoles from the PS3 to the PS5, as well as PlayStation services on the web.
According to Sony’s PlayStation Network status page, users are currently facing difficulties with online gaming, account management, and accessing the PlayStation Store. Many players are encountering error messages like “The connection to the server timed out” and “An error has occurred” when trying to sign in or play multiplayer games.
This outage is preventing PSN users from launching games or apps that require network features, while single-player and offline games remain unaffected. Gamers are voicing their frustrations online as Sony works to resolve the issue, with no current estimate on when full functionality will be restored.
The PlayStation Network status page confirms that the outage began at approximately 8:41 PM ET, and while PlayStation Direct services have been restored, other key services are still down. The outage is causing server overloads, resulting in “HTTP 500 Internal Server Error” messages, a common sign of overwhelmed backend servers.
Earlier in the day, Sony fixed a separate bug related to PS5 home screen artwork, which displayed advertisements and game promotions instead of custom game art. However, this bug is not believed to be linked to the current outage.
As of now, there is no word on when the PlayStation Network status will return to normal. Gamers are encouraged to monitor the official PlayStation Network status page for updates as Sony continues to work on restoring services.
